The Carole King
Project has now
developed
into one of
London’s hottest
new tribute acts.
You’ve Got a Friend (1971) - Recorded at Crown Lane Studios 2023
There is a lovely myth behind this song, originally Carole King wrote the song for her Tapestry album (1971) but then.... the story goes that Carole King gave it to James Taylor when he fell on hard times. How true it is I can't be sure but what a lovley thing to do!
The project has gone from strength to strength and the concept has now expanded beyond the confines of the Tapestry album. Carole’s body of musical work is vast, from her years spent as a writer at The Brill Building and Geffen records, to her many solo and collaborative albums. The project now includes many numbers from all of Carole King's musical repertoire.
Carole King is one of the most prolific and successful singer songwriters of the 20th Century. She is labelled as being on to the top ten singer songwriters of our time.
The Carole King Project started as a passion piece, a musical exercise. Is it possible to play and sing the entire Tapestry album, coupled by the realisation that not only could Claire do it, but she actually looked and sounded like Carole, it was an opportunity not to miss.
Claire uses a combination of acoustic piano and backing tracks alongside her vocal performance which is steeped in musicality, with a touch of feminist flower power, this show is second to none.
She has written for some of the biggest musicians: Aretha Franklin; Blood Sweet and Tears; Bobby Lee; Dusty Springfield; Herman Hermits; James Taylor; Little Eva; Mariah Cary; The Animals; The Byrds; The Carpenters; The Crystals; The Drifters; The Everly Brothers; The Monkees; The Shirelles
This huge catalogue of music delivers a range of music 50’s 60 70 and 80’s combined with Claire’s versatile performance will leave you feeling uplifted and energised.
